Explore the Charms of Hiroshima City by Taxi

While Hiroshima is especially famous as a “city of peace education,” it is also a place surrounded by gentle mountains and a calm sea, filled with experiences we want you to enjoy.

City of Peace Education

Hiroshima, along with Nagasaki, is the only city in the world to have suffered damage from a nuclear attack. This tragic event has been reported worldwide through news media and is remembered as a shared negative experience of humanity.
It is included in educational curricula around the world, providing opportunities to learn the value of peace and the importance of human harmony.

City of Industrial Learning

As the economic center of the Chugoku region, Hiroshima has developed as a heavy industry city since the Meiji Restoration. Visitors can experience the production processes of modern industries such as automobiles, shipbuilding, and industrial machinery, as well as traditional crafts like brushes for calligraphy, giving a tangible sense of “monozukuri” (the art of making things) from medieval times to the present.

City of Nature Learning

Hiroshima Prefecture is about 85% mountainous, making it hard to imagine that much of it was once under the sea. The prefecture’s calm and abundant sea, with over 140 islands, has served as an important foreign trade route since the era of the Tōzan missions and as a rich source of seafood supporting local life.

■Historical Architecture

Hiroshima is home to many valuable historical buildings, including Itsukushima Shrine, which appears to float on water; Kintai Bridge, a five-arch wooden structure; and the Hiroshima Army Clothing Depot, an early concrete building. Visiting these sites allows you to feel the close connection between the region’s climate, politics, and economy at the time.

Culture & Experiential Learning

Hiroshima offers opportunities to participate in tea ceremonies in daimyo gardens, experience making traditional crafts, tour historic temples, interact with foreign monks working in Zen temples, and engage with professionals in Hiroshima’s signature industries. These experiences provide a chance to reflect on your own daily life and reconsider your future goals.
